Midland Seniors Council

When Ted Symons ran for Mayor of Midland in the fall of 1988, one of his promises was to establish a Midland Seniors Council.  By the spring of 1989, Mayor Symons had appointed George MacDonald as the representative from Town Council, as well as, Martha Dickerson, Florence Riesberry, Joan Lavin, Donna Gonneau, Mary Brodeur and Shelly Adair as community Senior Council members.  During their first meeting at the Georgian Manor, members were asked to tell Town Council what they should be doing for the senior community in Midland.

Mayor Ted Symons recognized the magnitude of the contributions seniors make to our community and in April 1992, awarded Martha Dickerson with an award of merit for her contribution to the Seniors Council.

The Seniors Council mandate has been to recommend, advocate or act as a catalyst for the introduction, improvement and enhancement of services for Seniors in the Midland area.

The Council is currently involved in a planning process, which will endeavour to identify the needs of Seniors in this area and how best to service these needs.
