Shopper Docks

Shopper Dock Rules and Procedures
The Town of Midland welcomes boaters who would like to spend time in Midland shopping or enjoying a meal at a local restaurant. We are pleased to provide, when availability allows, a maximum of two hours of complimentary dockage and then an hourly rate of $5 for each additional hour berthed. Below are the rules and procedures for using the Shopper Docks at Midland Harbour.

  • At no time does the Town of Midland guarantee that Shopper Dock slips will be available.

  • When slips are available, it will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Shopper Docks are accessible seven days a week from mid-April to mid-October.

  • Shopper Docks hours are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • The first two hours are complimentary.

  • Any boats wishing to stay longer than two hours will be charged $5/hr. This fee must be pre-paid.

  • Any boats that are not moved within their allocated time frame or remain after 3 p.m. will be charged.

  • Boaters must check in with the Harbour Master/Harbour staff when they arrive to ensure their boat is berthed in an available location. Should a boater not check in with staff, their boat may be chained and fees applied.

  • Unpaid or overtime fees may be the equivalent of transient fees with no option to stay overnight.

  • The request to use a Shopper Dock after 3 p.m. will be at the discretion of the Harbour Master and depending on slip availability.

Boaters and their guests agree that they will follow all Harbour rules and regulations.

Pets

Pets are permitted; however, they must be kept on a leash at all times and may not be left unattended at any time.  Excessive barking will not be tolerated.  Dogs must not be tied on the docks in any way that may hinder or impede the safety of the walkways.  It is the pet owner's responsibility to "stoop and scoop".  Pet owners may be refused the privilege of bringing their pets to the Marina if they fail to comply with these rules.

Washrooms and Showers

Washrooms and Showers are located at the Administration Office and are open to the public from 8:00 am to 6:30 pm and are open seven (7) days a week. Showers are accessible.

Laundry

Laundry facilities are available to transient and seasonal boaters 24 hours a day.  They are located at the Administration Office. The machines are coin operated. We encourage our boaters to wash only full loads of laundry and use eco-friendly products.

Quiet Time

In order to respect the close proximity of neighbours, an 11:00 pm to 7:00 am noise curfew has been implemented. Music and loud voices must be turned to a low level as to not bother any sleeping boaters.  Please exercise good judgement and consideration at all times.

Garbage and Recycling

Garbage and Recycling bins are available in the designated area of the facility; there must be no spillage of garbage, sewage, fuels, oils or other pollutants on or about the Marina property or waterways.  Please contact the Midland Marina Administration Office for any disposal inquiries.

 Video Surveillance

Video surveillance cameras have been installed throughout the marina/harbour area to ensure the safety and security of all boaters, visitors, guests and staff.

 Emergencies and Emergency Phone Numbers

For emergencies, fire extinguishers are available throughout the Marina facility.  Please report all fire extinguisher usage to the Marina Office Personnel. Emergency assistance 911. Non emergency assistance    1-888-310-1122.

Clean Marine Program

Whether you take to the water by power, sail or paddle, the pleasure we all derive from boating is based on our enjoyment of the pristine waters and scenic shorelines. The Town of Midland is now a proud member of the Clean Marine Program and has achieved a Gold Eco-Rating. Boating Ontario member marinas enroll in the Clean Marine Program to ensure that their marinas are following environmentally sound practices that cover all aspects of marine operations from fueling to waste oil, and paper recycling, energy, water conservation and more for the protection of our our waterways for all to enjoy today and for future generations.  Our Midland Harbour has adopted Environmental Best Practices as a policy and way of doing business, giving you the opportunity to choose the certified, most environmentally responsible homeport for your boat.  Also, if you're cruising in unfamiliar waters, the Eco-Rating flag lets you choose a destination marina knowing they are doing all they can to preserve our lakes and rivers.

You may be just one boater, but collectively we can all make a difference.

  • Start by choosing an Eco-Rated Clean Marina for your homeport. When cruising Ontario’s waterways or when searching for services ashore, look for the Clean Marine flag.  Just as Clean Marine member marinas have committed themselves to following the best environmental practices, you can too.

  • Look for products with Environment Canada’s Environmental Choice logo to use around your boat. Products bearing the symbol with three doves intertwined to form a maple leaf are products that have been produced in a more environmentally responsible manner and their use leaves the least impact on the environment.

  • When you use our laundry facilities, ensure to always wash with a full load, and use eco-friendly detergents.

  • Divert more from landfills, place your recycling in designated recycling bins and only bring to the marina what you will be using for the visit.

  • Prevent spills from entering our waterways, we recommend using bilge socks to soak up any spills in the bilge.

  • Stoop and scoop all pet waste on shore and dispose of in the waste bin.

The Ontario Marine Operators Association is part of a much larger group numbering over twenty eight entities called the Clean Marine partnership. These partners consist of marine industry professionals, boaters and anglers associations (representing 1 million boaters) dedicated to leaving Ontario's waters in better shape that we inherited them. Future generations are counting on us to be successful.

Pleasure Craft Operator Card Information

What is a Pleasure Craft Operator Card?

A Pleasure Craft Operator Card is required to operate a power-driven boats and watercrafts in Canada - It's The Law.

A Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) proves that you have gained the knowledge to safely operate a motorized pleasure craft on Canada's waterways.

Who needs a PCOC?

  • Federal law in Canada mandated by Transport Canada
  • All operators of motorized vessels regardless of age, size of boat or engine horsepower
  • No grandfather clause or age exemption
  • Boaters caught with the card face a minimum $250.00 fine.

This applies to all persons who operate a powered watercraft fitted with any size or type of motor - even trolling and electric motors.  The PCOC is the most common proof of competency in Canada.

Every person who operates a motorized boat in Canada must obtain proof of competency.  You can obtain a Pleasure Craft Operator Card by passing Transport Canada Accredited boating safety test.  Getting your Operator Card proves that you are a competent boater and ensures that you understand Canada's navigation rues and how to boat safely.

Boaters can obtain their official Pleasure Craft Operator Card, commonly known as a boat license or boat card, by successfully passing the BOATsmart! exam.
