Waterfront Master Plan

The Town of Midland is preparing a Waterfront Master Plan with consultants from The Planning Partnership (TPP) to create a vision for Midland's shoreline. This plan will guide and manage how Midland's waterfront will change over time.

Creating the plan is a collaborative process, where the public will have opportunities to get involved. Building the plan will include exploring ways to enhance public access, protect natural and cultural heritage, create more recreation opportunities, and support well-designed development for new residential and commercial use.

Waterfront Master Plan FAQ

What is a master plan?

A master plan is a big-picture plan that helps guide how an area will grow and change over time and helps the Town make informed decisions when planning for the future.

How long is Midland's shoreline?

Midland's shoreline is approximately 13 kilometers long.

Why does Midland need a waterfront master plan?

Midland’s waterfront is one of the most important and loved parts of the community. Having a current Waterfront Master Plan would support environmental stewardship, enhance connectivity to the waterfront, and create economic development and tourism opportunities.

What is a shoreline inventory?

A shoreline inventory is an assessment of the current state of the waterfront and its assets which includes the shipping port, cruise ship port, public boat launch, several beaches/public water access points, marinas, natural and cultural heritage features, and private waterfront lots.

How does this affect me?

The waterfront is a community asset and a source of community identity. Whether you live on the water or visit Midland's waterfront spaces, your opinion counts.

What are the ways I can share my opinion?

There are a few ways the public can get involved. Stay informed and subscribe to News and Notices for any events or upcoming surveys. Missed the event or cannot attend, contact Town Staff or with Donna from The Planning Partnership by email: midland@planpart.ca.
