A fire route is:
- a private roadway;
- an access route for fire department vehicles to gain access to a building or a property in response to an emergency, or
- a designated public highway.
The Fire Chief Official may require a private roadway or parking lot or part thereof in the Town to be established as a Fire Route. No vehicle parking is permitted park in a Fire Route where authorized signs that prohibit parking have been erected and maintained. The Fire Route By-law includes information about:
- designation and establishment
- maintenance
- exemptions
- entry and inspection
- administration and enforcement
Key Definitions
The following key definitions may help assist in understanding rules and restrictions pertaining to fire routes in Midland. For a full list of definitions contained in the by-law please refer to the full Fire Route By-Law.
- "Fire Route" means a private roadway, an access route for fire department vehicles to gain access to a building or a property in response to an emergency or a designated public highway.
- “Park” or “Parking” when prohibited, means the standing of a Vehicle, whether occupied or not, except when standing temporarily for the purpose of and while actively engaged in loading or unloading merchandise or passengers.
- “Vehicle” includes a motor vehicle, trailer, traction engine, farm tractor, road building machine, bicycle and any vehicle drawn, propelled or driven by any kind or power, including muscular power and electronic bicycles.
