General Prohibitions
The Noise Control By-law includes a list of acts from which people are not allowed to emit, cause, or permit the emission of noise that is clearly audible at a point of reception (any point on a premises where sound originating from other than that premises is received).
Specific Prohibitions by Time & Place
There are specific prohibitions by time and place according to particulars of noise (construction equipment, fireworks detonation, combustion engines, persistent barking, etc.). Please refer to Schedule “A” (page 7) of the Noise Control By-law.
Exemptions
The Noise Control By-law details exemptions for:
- public safety
- traditional, festive, or religious activities
- essential services
People may apply to Town Council to be granted an exemption from any of the provisions of the Noise Control By-law with respect to any source of noise or vibration for which they might be prosecuted, and Council may deny or grant the exemption.
