Town Council approved the development of Midland's Short-Term Rental Accommodation (STRA) By-law at its February 25, 2026 meeting. The Town will seek public input to help guide the creation of the by-law and future enforcement approaches. Residents, property owners, and STR operators will be encouraged to share their thoughts on what regulations, standards and requirements they would like to see included in the by-law.

February 25, 2026: Council Approval of Town of Gravenhurst Model

Staff were directed to develop a short-term rental accommodation by-law modeled on the Town of Gravenhurst framework, as outlined in Attachment #7 of Staff Report CSR-2026-020.

May 20, 2026: Council Approval of Public Consultation

Council directed staff to proceed with public consultation related to the creation and final version of the Short-Term Rental Accommodation By-law.

August–September 2026 (Date TBD): Survey

A survey will be open to the public to provide feedback on the development of the Short-Term Rental Accommodation By-law. Subscribe to Public Engagement Opportunities to be notified when the survey opens.

September 8, 2026: Public Information Centre

A Public Information Centre will be held at the Bourgeois Community Centre to provide information to the public and seek input from individuals on what they would prefer to see included or not included within the final version of the by-law.

Q1 2027: Presentation to Council

A presentation to Council will include a summary of comments and suggestions received from the public from at the Public Information Centre and via the survey.

Q2 2027: Presentation to Council

A final version of the Short-Term Rental Accommodation By-law will be presented to Council for approval, with the goal of implementing the Short-Term Rental Accommodation program on January 1, 2028.
