Types of Entrance Permits

All entrance permit requests will require an application and design drawings or photos. There is no permit required to repave an existing driveway; the property owner assumes all costs and liability.

Property owners that would like to alter, widen or move their property entrance. This permit is valid for one year. The entrance needs to pass a final inspection within the permit year.

This permit allows the service of having a section of curb cut. The town contracts out this service. This service provides a cut to the curb only. Property owners are responsible for removal of concrete after the curb cut. Curb cut costs will vary.

This permit is valid for replacing damaged culverts. The permit application has no fee. The property owner assumes the cost of culvert and installation. This permits purpose ensures the property entrance complies with the roadway. It also prevents future damage from municipal equipment. This permit tracks the replacement of the culverts on the municipal road allowance. 

Property owners can install an entrance to a property with submission of a lot grading plan. This permit is valid for one year. The entrance needs installation and final inspection within the permit year.

Requirements: 

  • Lot grading plan.
  • Entrance location to be staked out on property.

Property owners that wish to install and entrance onto a property without a lot grading plan. This permit is often used for vacant lot owners to access and clean their lot. This permit is is good for six months. Property owners must submit a lot grading plan after 6 months or apply and pay for another permit.

Requirements:

  • Drawing of property with dimensions and location of entrance. 
  • Entrance location to be staked out on property.

Fees

As per the Fees and Charges By-law (Engineering Schedule).

$250 Plus actual charge of contractor (+ HST & required $500 deposit)

How to Apply

What to include with your application:

  • All measurements in metres. 
  • A drawing, plans or photo with the property dimensions, existing driveway width and proposed width. Include distance measurement between the sidewalk and curb.
  • Mark any trees, utilities, street lights, hydro poles or other fixtures on the drawing.
  • Photos or screenshots taken from Google Maps or Simcoe GIS are also helpful.
