Purpose Unless exempted by the Sign By-law, a sign permit is required before you erect a permanent sign, canopy sign or awning, or temporary sign.

Signs within the Town of Midland are regulated under Sign By-law, as amended and in some cases are regulated under the Ontario Building Code. A sign permit is required before you erect any of the following signs within the Town of Midland:

  • All permanent signs except where exempted by the Sign By-law
  • Canopy signs (or awnings) that overhang the street or sidewalk (please note that an encroachment agreement may also be required)
  • All temporary signs except where exempted by the Sign By-law

How to Apply

All permit applications are processed through the Cloudpermit system and you will need to create an account to get started.

Where the proposed signage cannot meet the requirements of the Sign By-law, a Sign Variance or Sign Amendment Application can be submitted separately as outlined within the application form, and amendment approval is required prior to erecting the signage.
