Keywords senior seniors 55+ aging retire retirement

As Canada’s senior population continues to grow, the Town of Midland is committed to creating a community where residents of all ages can live safely, stay active, and remain engaged.

In collaboration with the Midland Seniors Council, community organizations, and other local and regional partners across Simcoe County, Midland is working to become a more age-friendly community through inclusive planning and thoughtful policy development.

An age-friendly community is designed to help people live safely, enjoy good health, and stay involved. As part of its Global Age-friendly Cities Project, the World Health Organization (WHO) identifies eight key themes (foundations) of community life that can become more age-friendly:

  1. Outdoor spaces and buildings
  2. Transportation
  3. Housing
  4. Respect and social inclusion
  5. Civic participation and employment
  6. Communication and information
  7. Community support and health services
  8. Social participation
