Midland proclaims Day of Mourning for Persons Killed or Injured in the Workplace

Mayor Bill Gordon has proclaimed April 28, 2026, as “National Day of Mourning” in the Town of Midland, and flags are lowered to half-staff:

Whereas; National Day of Mourning has been recognized since April 1991; and

Whereas; on April 28, we remember and honour those lives lost or injured due to a workplace tragedy, and collectively renew the commitment to improve health and safety in the workplace and prevent further injuries, illnesses and deaths; and

Whereas; organizations in Canada are encouraged to take part in recognizing the importance of April 28 by renewing their commitment to keeping people and workplaces healthy and safe; and

Whereas; the Town of Midland plays an integral role in promoting and creating a safe and healthy workplace, and supporting all workers' rights; and

Whereas; to honour this National Day of Mourning, flags will fly at half-staff today; and

Therefore, I, Bill Gordon, Mayor of the Town of Midland, do hereby proclaim April 28, 2026, to be “National Day of Mourning” and encourage all to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace.
