Midland raises flag for International Women’s Day

Today the Town of Midland raised the flag for International Women's Day. Mayor Bill Gordon has proclaimed March 8, 2026, as “International Women’s Day” in Midland:

Whereas; Celebrated annually on March 8th, International Women’s Day has occurred for well over a century, with the first gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, International Women’s Day belongs to all groups collectively everywhere; and

Whereas; Today is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality; and

Whereas; The world has made unprecedented advances, but no country has achieved gender equality. We can see this in all career streams with less than 25% of parliamentarians being women. The gender gap is still present in various streams of society, and today is a day to acknowledge that and continue to make strides towards closing it; and

Whereas; On Friday, March 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. we will be raising a flag at Town Hall to mark International Women’s Day.

Therefore, I, Bill Gordon, Mayor of the Town of Midland, do hereby proclaim March 8, 2026, as “International Women’s Day” and encourage all residents to support initiatives that help to end gender-based violence.
