Plow Tracker relaunches with new features

Even as the winter season winds down, there’s still plenty of snow on the ground. To support residents during these final weeks, the Town of Midland has relaunched its Plow Tracker, which provides clear information about when local roads and sidewalks were last serviced by winter maintenance equipment.

The tool was temporarily offline this winter as the Town upgraded the GPS technology in its winter maintenance fleet. Although the launch comes late in the season, the Town is pleased to provide a reliable, fully tested tool that helps residents verify winter maintenance activity in their neighbourhoods.

The enhanced Plow Tracker is powered by the same reliable GPS data our winter operations team uses to monitor when and where equipment has serviced roads and sidewalks. By making this information visible to the public, the Town aims to support greater transparency and give residents an easy way to confirm winter maintenance activity in their neighbourhoods.

A major improvement in this new version is the addition of sidewalk machine tracking, which was not available in the previous Plow Tracker. The tool also shows the service levels for each road, helping residents see how different types of roads are maintained across Midland.

The Plow Tracker displays the approximate time a road or sidewalk was last plowed, sanded, or salted, using four easy to understand time ranges:

  • Serviced within the last 5 hours
  • Serviced between 5 and 10 hours ago
  • Serviced between 10 and 15 hours ago
  • Serviced more than 15 hours ago

The updated system also helps demonstrate how Midland’s winter operations team works to meet Provincial Minimum Maintenance Standards, which outline required timelines for reducing snow accumulation after snowfall ends. These standards vary by road classification, and the enhanced Plow Tracker gives residents greater visibility into how service levels are achieved throughout the community.
