Annual watermain flushing underway

Between May and August, the Town of Midland has scheduled annual watermain flushing as part of routine drinking water system maintenance. Residents may notice temporary water discolouration, reduced water pressure, or water use from fire hydrants while flushing is underway in their area.

During watermain flushing, water is drained from the fire hydrant at high speeds out onto the street and into a storm drain. This high-speed water lifts and flushes sediment and mineral deposits from the pipes.

When crews perform flushing activities in your neighbourhood, you may:

  • experience a temporary drop in pressure.
  • notice temporary discolouration. The water remains safe to use. If temporary discolouration occurs, run a cold water tap in your laundry tub or bathtub for approximately 5–10 minutes until the water runs clear.

Please visit midland.ca/WatermainFlushing for a zone map and current status to check when your area may be impacted.

This routine maintenance is expected to impact your water service for just one day each year. We appreciate your understanding as we remain dedicated to delivering you highest quality water service.
