Council approves new on‑demand microtransit service for Midland
At its March 18 meeting, Midland Council approved the implementation of a new on-demand microtransit service, with a target launch date of Summer 2026. The new service is expected to increase overall transit coverage by approximately 150%.
The approved service will replace the current fixed route transit system with a hybrid model that combines a traditional fixed route with on-demand transit, expanding transit service beyond the limits of the existing system. Transit fares will remain unchanged at launch, and accessible service options will continue to be available.
“Public transit is an essential service for our community, and that commitment remains unchanged,” said Mayor Bill Gordon. “By approving a hybrid microtransit model, Council is ensuring transit remains reliable, responsive, and sustainable as our community evolves.”
Town staff will now proceed with final contract negotiations and detailed planning for service rollout, including public education and engagement ahead of implementation.
