Eighth Street closed for reconstruction project

Construction on Eighth Street has begun for the Eighth Street Reconstruction Project. Eighth Street is fully closed (allowing local traffic only) from Yonge to Hugel for the duration of the project, which is expected to wrap up in November. Emergency access will be maintained at all times.

Full reconstruction work is done to replace aging infrastructure and allow the Town to maintain the level of service necessary for drinking water, sewage and stormwater management, as well as roadway conditions. The construction project includes:

  • Replacement of existing sanitary sewer and watermain, including services to property line
  • Drainage improvements and storm sewer upgrades
  • Full road reconstruction, including new curb, sidewalks, granulars and asphalt as required
  • Reinstatement of all disturbed areas to previous or better condition, including sections of driveways or boulevard affected by construction
  • New bike lanes
