Midland and Penetanguishene near completion of microtransit review

Joint Media Release

The Towns of Midland and Penetanguishene are nearing completion of the review of the joint Request for Proposals (RFP) for the provision of a microtransit system for both municipalities. The RFP evaluation team is currently finalizing the due‑diligence process.

Microtransit is a flexible and affordable on‑demand form of public transportation that uses smaller ride‑share vehicles with app‑based scheduling and fare payments. It provides a modern alternative to fixed‑route conventional bus services.

Staff reports containing recommendations from the RFP evaluation team are expected to be presented to Penetanguishene and Midland town councils by spring 2026. The reports will be posted on the Towns’ respective meeting agenda portals, accessible via midland.ca/CouncilMeetings and penetanguishene.ca/townhall/council.

The Mid‑Pen Transit Service continues to operate under its existing conventional transit service schedules. If recommendations from the RFP evaluation team are approved, microtransit service may replace Mid‑Pen service later in 2026. Mid‑Pen transit riders are encouraged  to sign up for Transit Notices at midland.ca/subscribe to receive updates directly by email.
