How to Cast your Votes

Voting for the 2026 Municipal and School Board Elections will occur by internet and telephone. This allows the Town to offer voters an extended voting period and the flexibility to participate in the election process at their convenience, without the need to attend a physical polling location. Voting online or by telephone is a fast, convenient, and secure way to vote, which has been previously used successfully by many municipalities, including Midland.

Voter Assistance Centre

A Voter Assistance Centre will be located in the Town Council Chambers for approximately two weeks prior to Voting Day. Electors/Voters requiring assistance will be welcome to come to the Voter Assistance Centre to get help in person. Voting locations will also be arranged at the long-term care and retirement homes for residents. This webpage will be updated as information is confirmed.

Voter Instruction Letter

Eligible voters will receive a Voter Instruction Letter (VIL) that will contain their personal Voter ID or Voting PIN. Voters are not to share this information with anyone. In addition to the information in the VIL, additional steps are required to validate voter identity when voting online or by telephone. Voters will also be required to take an oath confirming their eligibility, similar to in-person voting. It is illegal to vote when you are not eligible to do so. VILs will be sent via Canada Post in September 2026 to individuals on the voters list. More information will be posted on this webpage closer to September.

Frequently Asked Questions

2026 Municipal Elections

Voting online or by telephone is a fast, convenient, and secure way to vote, which has been previously used successfully by many municipalities, including Midland. The Town takes its responsibility to run a fair and secure democratic election seriously and has processes in place to do so. Under law, eligible voters can only vote once in the election, and the internet and telephone voting system used by the Town can flag irregular voting occurrences for further investigation.

Before voting, eligible voters are reminded of the following important information: It is illegal to vote more than once in the same municipality. The Town will pursue individuals who commit voter fraud, which can carry a fine of up to $25,000 and imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months.

The new four-year term will begin on November 15, 2026. However, the current Council Members continue to hold office until their successors, the new Council, are deemed organized. For Midland, this will occur on Wednesday, November 18, 2026, as per the Procedure By-law, and it is at the Inaugural Meeting where elected officials will make their declarations of office.
