Winter Parking Restrictions
From November 15 to April 1 of each year, snow removal parking restrictions come into effect. Any vehicles parked between the hours of 12am to 7am on Town streets, in municipal parking lots, or in any manner that interferes with snow plowing or winter maintenance, may be ticketed or towed. The winter parking restrictions are in effect annually regardless of current weather or road conditions.
When a Significant Weather Event is declared, on-street parking is not permitted at any time during the event.
Key Definitions
The following key definitions may help assist in understanding rules and restrictions pertaining to parking in Midland. For a full list of definitions contained in the by-law please refer to the full Parking By-law.
- "Highway” means a common and public Highway, Street, Boulevard, centre, crescent, lane, avenue, parkway, square, place, court, bridge, viaduct or trestle, designed and intended for, or used by the general public for the passage of Vehicles, including unopened and unassumed Highways.
- “Park” or “Parking” means when prohibited, the Standing of a Vehicle, whether occupied or not, except when Standing temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading merchandise or passengers.
- “Stand” or “Standing” when prohibited, means the halting of a Vehicle, whether occupied or not, except for the purpose of and while actually engaged in receiving or discharging passengers.
- “Stop” or “Stopping” when prohibited, means the halting of a Vehicle, even momentarily, whether occupied or not, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of a Police Officer or of a traffic control sign or signal.
- “Vehicle” means a Motor Vehicle, Trailer, traction engine, farm tractor, road-building machine, Bicycle and any Vehicle drawn, propelled or driven by any kind of power, including muscular power, but does not include a motorized snow Vehicle or a street car.
