The Wastewater Treatment Centre (WWTC) Septage and Receiving Upgrade Project is one of three water/wastewater infrastructure servicing projects that is being funded through the Province’s Housing-Enabling Water System Fund. The project encompasses upgrades to the Town's septage and receiving systems located at the WWTC to treat septic sewage for the town and neighbouring communities. This project includes.
- a new prefabricated Septage Receiving Station (SRS) complete with septage unloading connection.
- flow metering, screening and screenings handling equipment.
- associated mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
This project is needed as the current facility is not equipped to deal with the current septage sewage needs of the area. Upon completion of the Wastewater Treatment Centre Headworks Upgrade Project and the the septage receiving upgrades, the WWTC will have capacity to process the sewage from Midland and neighbouring townships.
Budget
Budget for this project has not yet been finalized. 73% of the project cost will be funded through the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund Grant. 27% will be approved funding through debt financing paid by Wastewater user rates and development charges.
Project Update
Posted August 10, 2026:
A notice of construction has been distributed to nearby properties. Construction is scheduled to start September 1st, 2026, and be completed by June 30th, 2027. During construction, residents may notice periodic activity on or around the site. Every effort will be made to minimize disruption; however, increases in noise, construction traffic, and brief localized traffic slow-downs may occur.

2021: Wastewater Master Plan
It was determined that the WWTC is inadequate to treat any future or 2041-projected wastewater flows.
2024–2026: Design
Design of the septage and receiving station.
Spring/Summer 2026 | Tender & Review
The project went out for tender after design is complete. RiteStart Limited was awarded the contract.
September 2026 to June 2027: Construction
Construction is scheduled to start September 1, 2026, and is to be completed by June 30, 2027. Read the notice of construction distributed to nearby properties.
