Key Definitions
The following key definitions may help assist in understanding rules and restrictions pertaining to parking in Midland. For a full list of definitions contained in the by-law please refer to the full Parking By-law.
- "Highway” means a common and public Highway, Street, Boulevard, centre, crescent, lane, avenue, parkway, square, place, court, bridge, viaduct or trestle, designed and intended for, or used by the general public for the passage of Vehicles, including unopened and unassumed Highways.
- “Park” or “Parking” means when prohibited, the Standing of a Vehicle, whether occupied or not, except when Standing temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading merchandise or passengers.
- “Stand” or “Standing” when prohibited, means the halting of a Vehicle, whether occupied or not, except for the purpose of and while actually engaged in receiving or discharging passengers.
- “Stop” or “Stopping” when prohibited, means the halting of a Vehicle, even momentarily, whether occupied or not, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of a Police Officer or of a traffic control sign or signal.
- “Vehicle” means a Motor Vehicle, Trailer, traction engine, farm tractor, road-building machine, Bicycle and any Vehicle drawn, propelled or driven by any kind of power, including muscular power, but does not include a motorized snow Vehicle or a street car.

Overnight Parking
Overnight parking rules in the Town of Midland depend on season, location, and weather conditions.
Beginning with a revised by-law effective June 1, 2026, the Town is introducing limited, permit‑based overnight parking options. Between May 1 and October 31 each year:
- Overnight parking is permitted at the Pete Pettersen Boat Launch lot up to 7 days with the purchase of a boat launch permit.
- Overnight parking is permitted for up to 72 hours in the Harbour parking lot for the general public.
- Overnight parking for people with a Seasonal Marina Parking Permit in the downtown parking lots with the exception of Lot 9 (due to the Farmers' Market location) is unlimited between May 1 and October 31. Seasonal Marina Parking Permits are only available to slip owners at the Midland Harbour Marina.
