Eighth Street, Hugel Avenue projects planned for Midland’s 2026 construction season

As warmer weather returns, construction season is underway in Midland. Each year, the Town undertakes essential road infrastructure projects in alignment with the Town’s Transportation Master Plan.

Construction is planned on the following roads in 2026:

  • Eighth Street
  • Hugel Avenue
  • Simpresca Road

The Town is also wrapping up two major infrastructure projects carried over from 2025. The Yonge Street and Ellen Street reconstruction projects are in their final stages, with finishing works scheduled for completion before the summer season.

Construction will begin this summer on the Eighth Street Reconstruction Project, a full rebuild between Yonge Street and Hugel Avenue. Work will include replacing aging water and sewer infrastructure, improving drainage, installing new sidewalks and curbs, reconstructing the roadway, and enhancing active transportation features.

Sections of Hugel Avenue (from William Street to George Street and from Woodland Drive to Eighth Street), along with Simpresca Road, are included in the annual Road Resurfacing Program. This program focuses on maintaining existing roads before they deteriorate beyond acceptable conditions, helping to reduce long-term costs and extend roadway life. These sections of Hugel Avenue will also see the addition of bike lanes, supporting the Town’s commitment to enhancing active transportation options.

There may be temporary delays, lane reductions, and detours in construction areas throughout the season. Residents in affected areas will be notified of project details before work begins and of any major updates throughout construction. Emergency access is always maintained.
