Town of Midland encourages residents to get prepared during Emergency Preparedness Week
The Town of Midland is encouraging residents to take simple, practical steps to prepare for emergencies in recognition of Emergency Preparedness Week (EP Week), May 3–9, 2026.
Emergency Preparedness Week is a national campaign led by Public Safety Canada and the provinces and territories to remind Canadians that being prepared can make a significant difference in protecting themselves, their families and their communities during an emergency.
“Emergencies can happen at any time, often without warning,” said Midland Fire Chief Richard Renaud. “Whether it’s a severe storm, extended power outage, or another unexpected situation, having a plan and basic supplies can reduce stress and help ensure safety during those critical first hours or days.”
Residents visiting Town Hall, 575 Dominion Avenue, during Emergency Preparedness Week are encouraged to stop by the Emergency Preparedness information display, which features resources to help residents:
- Build a 72-hour emergency kit with essential supplies
- Make a household emergency plan
- Stay informed about local risks and alerts
- Prepare for hazards most likely to affect the Midland area
Emergency preparedness information, including local plans and resources, is available on the Town’s website at midland.ca/EP. National preparedness guidance, including how to build a 72-hour emergency kit, can be found at canada.ca/get-prepared.
By taking time during Emergency Preparedness Week to get ready, residents can help ensure they are better prepared to respond and recover when emergencies happen.
