Ice storm - thanks from Town of Midland

Following the enormity of the recent ice storm, we have witnessed extraordinary efforts, resilience and kindness from every corner of Midland and beyond. We are deeply grateful for the tireless work and unwavering dedication of so many. 

To Midland Fire, OPP and the County, the Town’s critical infrastructure teams and staff at the warming centres, for keeping our community safe and supported even as you faced similar circumstances at home. To our Operations and Water services staff for not only ensuring the safety of roads and water for our own residents, but for reaching out to neighbouring municipalities to lend a hand. To the NT Power and Hydro One teams who spent countless hours away from their homes and families, braving the weather and dangerous conditions to restore power to customers. All these critical infrastructure teams went above and beyond to ensure safety, restore power and provide essential services under incredibly challenging conditions. Your professionalism and commitment are nothing short of inspiring, and our community is stronger because of all of you.

To Mayor Gordon, members of Council and MPP Jill Dunlop for supporting our community throughout the storm and for stopping in at the warming centres to share conversation, for connecting with residents with compassion and empathy, and for simply making people feel they were not alone.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to local organizations and businesses (both in Midland and beyond) that stepped up to support the warming centres with food and supplies.  Your generosity and quick actions provided comfort and support to many in need.

Finally, to the members of our community, your willingness to support one another—whether by opening your homes, sharing resources, or simply checking in on a neighbour—has been a shining example of the spirit that defines what community is. Your compassion and generosity remind us all of the strength we have when we work together.
