Building and Renovating in Midland
Through the building permit application and inspection process, Building Services ensures that all building projects are safe, comply with minimum standards as set out in the Ontario Building Code as well as any applicable by-law of the Town of Midland and other applicable regulating bodies. Building Services is responsible for the regulation and enforcement of the Ontario Building Code.

2023 Building Permit Fees Review
The Town has retained Watson & Associates Economists Ltd. (Watson) to undertake a review of their building permit fees that:
- Conforms with legislation and is defensible;
- Balances the Town’s need to maximize cost recovery and ensure building permit reserve fund sustainability with stakeholder interests, affordability, and competitiveness; and
- Uses a methodology that is an activity-based costing approach to fully recover the costs of administration and enforcement of the Building Code.
In order to implement the recommendations from the fees review, a Public Meeting is required and then Council will consider the implementing By-law for adoption.
