Proclamation
National AccessAbility Week
May 25 to May 31, 2025
Whereas; Approximately 2.9 million Ontario residents have some form of disability and as disability increases with age, there is a need for greater awareness, of the needs, capabilities and potential of persons with disabilities in Ontario; and
Whereas; Individuals with disabilities are impacted daily by barriers to: information, facilities, employment, education, healthcare, transportation, and communication supports, therefore negatively challenging an individual’s ability to fully participate in community life; and
Whereas; The Town of Midland Council and the citizens of Midland are committed to working to make Midland an inclusive community in which all persons can independently exercise their civil, political, social and cultural rights on an equal basis, ensuring that everyone has the right to live in conditions of dignity, respect and peace; and
Whereas; On behalf of the Town of Midland, we extend our recognition to all persons with disabilities and offer our support to National AccessAbility Week as an opportunity to celebrate accessibility as a national concern, while working locally to increase our efforts to achieve our goal of becoming an inclusive community, by working to eliminate barriers to Town of Midland facilities, programs and services.
Therefore, I, Bill Gordon, Mayor of the Town of Midland, do hereby proclaim the week of May 25-31, 2025, as "National AccessAbility Week" and encourage everyone to support equality of access, and opportunity for persons with disabilities.
