Midland provides 90-day notice period to begin Automated Speed Enforcement Program

For Immediate Release

(June 2, 2025, Midland ON) Further prioritizing public safety on town roads to reduce speeding in designated areas, Midland is officially launching its Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) Program. Signage has been installed at designated locations, and enforcement begins in early September following the mandatory 90-day public awareness period, ensuring that residents and motorists are informed well in advance of implementation.

"Safety of our residents is our top priority," said Bill Gordon, Mayor of Midland. "By implementing automated speed enforcement in two community safety zones, we aim to change driver behaviour and reduce incidents of speeding to create safer streets for everyone."

The ASE system, using speed enforcement cameras in community safety zones and school zones, is designed to encourage safer driving habits and protect pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users. Town of Midland Council approved the program in 2024 and endorsed two speed camera installations in two identified safety zones based on traffic volume and speed data:

  • Yonge Street near Mundy’s Bay Public School
  • William Street near Sacred Heart School

Midland's community safety speed camera program aligns with provincial legislation and supports municipal efforts to reduce speed-related collisions and improve overall road safety. With the signage now in place, the Town is set to roll out implementation of the cameras in early September 2025, coinciding with children returning to school after the summer break.

This 90-day notice period provides time for motorists to familiarize themselves with ASE by visiting midland.ca/ase for more information on the program, enforcement locations, and how ASE contributes to road safety in the community.
