The Town of Midland hosted an overwhelmingly successful and first-ever Public Works Palooza in celebration of National Public Works Week on Saturday May 27th, 2023, where community members from all around North Simcoe received a close-up look at what goes on in the world of public works.

The event showcased the hard work and achievements of the Town's dedicated Operations department, the unsung heroes who provide vital road and maintenance services to keep our community safe and prosperous. Town Operations were joined by other Town departments, as well as the Severn Sound Environmental Association and vital emergency services including Midland Fire, Ontario Provincial Police, and Simcoe County Paramedic Services. Town and emergency services staff gave equipment demonstrations, handed out treats and prizes and interacted with kids at heart and of all ages in a fun and engaging way. The Kool FM Street Team was also on hand and provided an entertaining musical backdrop to add to the atmosphere.

“This event truly embodies the spirit of our community and the tireless efforts and dedication of our staff,” said Director of Operations Dylan Flannery. “The Palooza was a great way for staff to interact with the community and provide avenues for education and support. We are grateful to all who attended. It was heartwarming to witness the positive energy and enthusiasm of staff and visitors throughout the day."

The Public Works Palooza also served as a platform for promoting environmental sustainability and connecting residents to information on road maintenance, water and wastewater services as well as other infrastructure services. Attendees also had the chance to meet and interact with the skilled professionals responsible for operating and maintaining these vehicles, fostering a greater understanding and appreciation for their work.

The Town of Midland plans to build on the momentum of their first Public Works Palooza this year by making it an eagerly anticipated annual tradition for the community. The inaugural event's resounding success exemplifies the unity and appreciation that exists between Town staff and the residents that receive the services provided.
