2026 Road Resurfacing Program

Project Status: Complete

Annual road resurfacing projects ensure our existing infrastructure does not deteriorate beyond our target Pavement Condition Index (PCI). These roads are currently at the end of their useful life and are becoming a financial burden to maintain. Additionally, completing geotechnical investigations for future road resurfacing projects allows staff to choose the appropriate resurfacing methods and estimate budgets more accurately.

Hugel Avenue Bike Lanes

As part of the 2026 Road Resurfacing Program, Hugel Avenue from Woodland Drive to Eighth Street and Hugel Avenue from George Street to William Street was resurfaced. At the Town Council meeting on February 4, 2026, Council passed a motion to include bike lanes on both sides of the road within this road sections.

The Town’s Official Plan and Transportation Master Plan identify Hugel Avenue as part of a continuous cycling route. The roadway throughout both sections of Hugel Avenue is not wide enough to accommodate both bike lanes and parking lanes and would result in parking on both sides of the road being prohibited.

In advance of the Town Council February 4, 2026, meeting, letters were distributed to properties located within these road segments to obtain any feedback on these changes. Feedback was accepted until January 25, 2026.

Project Updates

Posted October 2, 2026:

The project is now complete.

Posted August 26, 2026: Paving of both sections of Hugel is complete. Completion of pavement markings is expected to be completed this evening and driveway restorations are to begin next week. Simpresca Road has been graded and paving is scheduled to take place next week.

Posted July 30, 2026: The contractor will start working on Hugel Avenue (Woodland–Eighth and George–William) on July 31, cutting the sections of curb they will be replacing to get them ready for removal and replacement the week of August 3. The removal of asphalt, placement of new granular, and placement of new asphalt will follow the curb work and is anticipated to take roughly three weeks to complete. All work on Hugel is scheduled to wrap up by August 21.
