2026 Sidewalks & Curbs Program

Project Status: Upcoming

The Town’s annual Sidewalks and Curbs Program is a proactive investment in safe, accessible, and reliable infrastructure, ensuring our community’s walkways are well maintained while reducing hazards and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents. Each year, the Town undertakes targeted improvements to sidewalks and curbs to address aging infrastructure and ensure safe pedestrian travel.

Project Updates

Posted June 10, 2026

The contractor plans to start sidewalk work on Wednesday, June 17

The contractor will be starting on the east side of First Street (Easy–Yonge). There will be on-street parking restrictions on the west side of the First Street, as the contractor will have to shift traffic into the parking lane to accommodate their workspace.

Following the First Street work, the contractor will move to the east side of Midland Avenue (Hugel to approx. 35 metres north of Dominion).

Following the Midland Avenue work, the contractor will move to Ontario Street (Fourth– Sixth).

Please note the contractor may be back and forth between sites while wrapping up the project.

Program Overview

Each year, the Town undertakes targeted improvements to sidewalks and curbs to address aging infrastructure and ensure safe pedestrian travel. The 2026 program focuses on removing and replacing deteriorated concrete, improving accessibility, and addressing trip hazards across several key locations.

This work also includes slab jacking, grouting, and saw cutting at various locations to extend the life of existing sidewalks where appropriate.

2026 Project Locations

  • Midland Avenue (west side), Hugel Avenue to 35 metres north of Dominion Avenue
  • Hugel Avenue (north side) from Midland Avenue to 20 metres west of Midland Avenue
  • First Street (east side) Yonge Street to Easy Street
  • Ontario Street (south side) Fourth Street to Sixth Street

Project Features

The 2026 program focuses on removing and replacing deteriorated concrete, improving accessibility, and addressing trip hazards across several key locations. A contractor has been retained to complete sidewalk and boulevard reconstruction in the identified areas. Work will generally include:

  • Removal and replacement of existing sidewalk
  • Removal of outdated infrastructure (e.g., parking meter bases where applicable)
  • Restoration or replacement of boulevard areas

Timing & What to Expect

Construction is scheduled for summer 2026, with more detailed scheduling shared in advance of work beginning at each location. Work at each site is expected to take approximately 3–4 weeks, weather permitting. Notices are provided to impacted residents with specific timing and project updates as construction approaches.

During construction, residents may experience:

  • Temporary disruptions to driveway and property access during removals, forming, and concrete curing
  • Short-term impacts to boulevard areas
  • The need to use alternate parking, such as nearby side streets or municipal parking lots, during certain phases of construction

The contractor will make every effort to minimize impacts to residents and businesses, maintain safe access wherever possible, restore driveways, parking areas, and boulevards within the limits of construction.
