Smartcards can be purchased at our Town Hall. Payment methods include: Cash, Debit, Visa, and MasterCard.

There is a one time fee of $4.00 for each Smart Card and can be reloaded up to a maximum of 50 rides.

How long does it take for my card to be updated with a new pass for stored value?

If you load a new pass or stored value on your card at a location with a point of sale terminal, your card will be updated immediately.  If you load a new pass on your card online, you should allow 24 hours for your card to be updated.

This delay is due to the required time for the online transaction to be communicated to the devices on all Mid-Pen Transit vehicles.

To be absolutely sure your pass will be functional, please load your stored value a few days in advance of needing it.

Why does it take up to 24 hours for my online load to appear on my card?

If loading your card online you should allow yourself at least 24 hours to allow communications between your back-office system and the readers in the buses. The on-board readers are updated only when buses return to the Mid-Pen Transit location.

NOTE:  To load a Smart Card immediately, visit a Mid-Pen Transit location.

 What if I do not load my Smart Card in time and run out of stored value?

If you tap your Smart Card and the following exists:

  • There is not a valid transfer present

  • The remaining stored value does not cover the amount of fare required for a single ride

    The Smart Card will permit one ride by allowing the balance to go into a negative.  This negative balance is repaid the next time you add stored value to the card.

What is stored value?

Stored value allows riders to load an amount on their Smart Card and then the balance declines as it is used to ride.  Stored value fares will reflect that of ticket prices - Fares are in accordance to the Town of Midland's Composite Fee Schedule.

Registering your Smart Card

If you lose your Smart Card, it will be easier for us to get it back for you if we find it.  Also, we can de-activate your lost card and move the balance of fare products over to a new card.

 How to Register your card

 Online

  • To register your card online, go to midland.usetransit.com and create an account by clicking the Register button.  Once registered, the Smart Card may be added by selecting (+) Link an Existing Smart Card.

The new online transit portal allows users to:

  1. Create an online user account;

  2. Register your Smart card to your user account;

  3. More than one Smart Card can be linked to a user account;

  4. Reload your Smart Card online via credit card;

  5. Activate an auto-reload feature where the system will automatically load your Smart Card when your balance falls below your set threshold;

  6. Report a lost or stolen Smart card to immediately deactivate the lost or stolen Smart Card and request a replacement; and

  7. Review usage history.

 Benefits of registering your Smart Card

Registering your card allows you to secure your balance in case your card is lost or stolen.  Report your card lost or stolen as soon as possible and your card will be deactivated.  Your balance will be protected, and can be transferred to a replacement card.  A fee for replacement may apply.

Replacement cards are available at the following locations:

  • Midland Municipal Office, 575 Dominion Avenue

  • Midland Public Library, 320 King Street

  • North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre, 527 Len Self Boulevard

  • Penetanguishene Municipal Office, 10 Robert Street West

  • Penetanguishene Public Library, 24 Simcoe Street.

 Replacing your card

Once your card has been blocked, it cannot be used again.  You will have to get a replacement card and transfer any stored value to a new card.  Replacement cards could be subject to an issuing fee.  You will need to provide proof of identification in order to transfer your balance to a new card.

Load your Smart Card

Once you have your Adult or Senior/Student Smart Card, you can load funds onto your card by either in person or online.  Transit money loading can either be done with cash or through the Mid-Pen Transit Payment Portal.

After funds have been loaded to the card, you're ready to ride.Tap and Hold your card on the SmartCard reader when boarding the bus. Each time you tap your card, the system deducts Mid-Pen Transit Fare, with the discount applied from the balance stored on your card. The type of card you have determines how much will be deducted from your card.
